СSBI started the implementation of the new project with EU support

In September 2019 Center for Social and Business Initiatives started the implementation of the project “Bike AcceNT: Bicycle Accessibility Networking Territories” which is co-financed by the EU within the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020.

Project duration is 24 months.

The action covers Ivano-Frankivsk region and Zakarpattia in Ukraine, as well as Košický samospávny kraj and Prešovský samospávny kraj in Slovakia. The project partner from the Ukrainian side is Agency for sustainable development of the Carpathian region “FORZA”. The project partners from the Slovakian side are Prešov Bicycle Group Boneshaker and Ptrukša village.

The project overall objective is to improve the accessibility of Slovak-Ukrainian cross-border region for cyclists by creating preconditions for transboundary mobility and awareness raising on the importance of bicycles as eco-friendly and climate-proof transport.

The key project objectives are as follows:

  1. Creating conditions for development of cycling infrastructure in the cross-border area of Slovakia and Ukraine.
  2. Capacity building of stakeholders on the issues of planning and implementation of cycling infrastructure, as an element of cross-border cooperation and development.
  3. Awareness-raising on bikes as eco-friendly and climate-proof transport among public of Kosice, Prešov, Zakarpattia and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

Among the main activities of the project – development of the cross-border orientation system for cyclists; development of spatial planning documents on the bicycle transportation network for Zakarpattia and Ivano-Frankivsk region; conducting of the cross-border networking events, VeloForum Conference and information meetings for local governments on the issues of planning and implementation of cycling infrastructure on regional level; establishment of the informational materials and publications.

It also is foreseen of such infrastructure work as the arrangement of the rest places for cyclists and marking of the cycling route including the technical documentation.

Innovation aspect of the project is enclosed in its integrated and holistic approach to improve the situation with cycling infrastructure at the national policy, regional planning and local practical levels of intervention.
